privacy policy
The short version: your personal food log is stored on your device. Online food search sends a search query or food identifier through our service to FatSecret. Apple and RevenueCat process limited purchase and entitlement data for Pinch Plus. Pinch has no advertising and does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
1. what stays on your device
- Foods and "usual suspects" you save, with their sodium values
- Your daily sodium budget and everything you log against it
- Streaks, weekly history and trends
- Reminder times, appearance and theme settings
This information is stored as local app data and is not uploaded to a Pinch account or cloud database. Pinch does not require an account. Device backups may include app data according to your Apple backup settings.
2. online food search
When you choose to search the online food database, Pinch sends the search text, language or region, platform identifier, and result limit to a Pinch-operated HTTPS service. When you open a result, it sends the selected FatSecret food identifier and language or region. The service forwards the request to FatSecret and returns nutrition data to the app.
Our application code does not write food-search queries to a database. It uses an internet address temporarily for security and rate limiting. Hosting and network providers may process connection and service data under their own policies. FatSecret may process requests and related service data as described in the FatSecret Privacy Policy. Your private on-device food log is not sent with these searches.
3. subscriptions & purchases
Apple processes payments for Pinch Plus; we do not receive your full payment-card details. Pinch uses RevenueCat to display subscription products, complete purchases and restores, and determine premium entitlement status. RevenueCat may process an app-specific anonymous user identifier, device and app information, Apple receipt or transaction information, entitlement status, and paywall interaction events needed to provide and improve the subscription service. Pinch does not send your food log or food-search text to RevenueCat. Learn more in RevenueCat's Privacy Policy and Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. notifications
Meal check-ins are scheduled locally on your device. Notification content is composed on-device and shown only on your screen; enable "hide previews" in your device settings if you don't want it visible on the lock screen.
5. advertising, analytics & tracking
Pinch contains no advertising SDK and does not use data to track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We do not sell your personal information. Subscription-service events described above are used for app functionality and purchase management, not third-party advertising.
6. your controls & retention
- Edit or delete any logged entry, any time
- Erase all data from within the app with one confirmed tap
- Deleting the app deletes all local data
Third-party providers retain service data according to their policies and legal obligations. Cancelling a subscription stops future renewals but does not itself delete local app data.
7. children
Pinch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. international processing
Online service providers may process data in countries other than where you live. Their privacy policies explain the safeguards and locations applicable to their services.
9. changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
